The Magallanes model is made from fallen Lenga wood. This is a tree that reaches the highest parts of the Andes and forms the majority of southern Chilean forests.
Hernando Magallanes is the namesake of this model, inspired by the adventures this navigator had in Chile's southern lands. Magallanes made contact with the Patagons and then upon exploring the area christened the "Canal de Todos los Santos" which is in the strait that now bears his name.
